Opel Grandland X: now with new 1.5 turbodiesel engine
The Opel Grandland X is the first Opel model to debut the new 1.5 turbodiesel engine, which produces 130 CV and meets the emissions standard that comes into force in 2019.
In our road test of the Opel Grandland X Ultimate we already anticipated that the Opel SUV would get a new 1.5 turbodiesel engine. Now we can get to know it in more detail. It is a four-cylinder 1.5 engine for which a maximum output of 130 CV (96 kW) is announced, with a maximum torque of 300 Nm from just 1,750 rpm. These figures improve on the performance of the 1.6 CDTI it replaces, which produced 120 CV.

And that’s not all: it also improves fuel consumption, by up to 4 percent. With a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Opel Grandland X 1.5 CDTi has an announced combined average consumption from 4.1 l/100 km, with figures converted under the new WLTP cycle to an NEDC equivalent, so that it can be compared with the previous 1.6.
As for the latter, in addition to the displacement, internal friction is reduced, combustion is improved through a new piston design, and exhaust gas recirculation is increased thanks to a more efficient heat exchanger. It also includes an oxidation catalyst and the corresponding particulate filter with AdBlue, so the new engine meets the demanding Euro 6d-TEMP standard regulating nitrogen oxide emissions, which comes into force in September 2019.

In addition to the manual gearbox, the Opel Grandland X with the 1.5 CDTi engine will be available with the new 8-speed automatic gearbox. This version sits in the range below the 177 CV 2.0 CDTi. Gradually, the new engine will replace the 1.6 across the rest of the brand’s models.
