New BMW M5 Competition: a beast with 625 CV
The new generation of the BMW M5 has a new member, the Competition version of the German beast gains performance and goes up to 625 CV.
If the arrival of the BMW M2 Competition already set our mouths watering, we didn’t know it was just an appetiser for what was yet to come. And BMW has just announced the arrival of the new beast in its M performance line: the BMW M5 Competition. A high-performance saloon, tailored to order and with a maximum output of 625 CV, promising a driving experience that goes beyond sheer speed.

A beast with 625 CV
Although the BMW M5 already had a not-so-modest 600 CV, the German manufacturer has turned the screw a little further on its sporty sedan. The new BMW M5 Competition comes with 25 CV more than its “smaller” sibling, and right off the bat it claims an acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in just 10.8 seconds. Quite something!
In fact, the BMW M5 Competition uses the same engine as the M5, but with several specification changes to improve its performance. This is how the twin-turbo V8 reaches 625 CV at 6,000 rpm and has a maximum torque of 750 Nm (the same as the M5), but with a rev range extended by 200 rpm, running from 1,800 to 5,800 rpm.

This is how the M5 Competition reaches a limited top speed of 250 km/h, which would go well beyond 300 without the limiter. The specifications of this more radical version deliver better acceleration than the standard version, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaching 200 km/h from a standing start in 10.8 seconds.
Specific setup
The Competition package does not only deliver power more effectively. The chassis setup is specific to this model and brings substantial adjustments to the wheel suspension, springs and dampers. A personalised tuning so that the most radical version of the M5 flexes its muscles on the tarmac.

The car’s height is lowered by 7 millimetres, and a new front axle anti-roll bar has been added to guarantee precision at the wheel. We had no doubts about that, since the new BMW M5 Competition includes the exquisite M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with three modes to choose from: all-wheel drive, all-wheel drive Sport and rear-wheel drive.
A complete package that delivers everything we could ask of a BMW M series car. To get your hands on one, though, you’ll have to wait for production to start in July 2018. And although BMW has not revealed its price in Spain, we can take as a reference the 137,097 euros that the standard M5 costs. From there, you’d add the tuning to increase power and all the interior and exterior design personalisation that comes with the new M5 Competition.
