Paris Motor Show 2014: Skoda Fabia and Skoda Fabia Combi

Skoda has been presenting the new Skoda Fabia and Skoda Fabia Combi at the Paris Motor Show these past few days. This third generation features innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems and is greener than ever.

As for its design, Skoda designers have adapted design elements from the spectacular “VisionC” prototype for series production. At the same time, elements of Skoda Motorsport can also be seen. This is reflected in its striking appearance, with clearly defined lines and a high level of precision and detail.

Aesthetically, contrasting tones can be chosen for the mirrors, roof and wheels, and the colour palette moves away from its conservative image, including very vivid shades (yellow, bright green, electric blue, orange), as seen in the image above.

Inside, we find simplicity and ergonomics without being overly dull. The centre console can integrate a new infotainment system with MirrorLink technology and the new SmartGate function, which brings smartphone functionality into the car, allowing phones to be easily paired with the vehicle.

The Skoda Fabia gets a new generation of engines, four petrol and three diesel, with outputs between 60 and 110 CV and emissions up to 17% lower, the most efficient being the Skoda Fabia GreenLine 1.4 TDI with 75 CV, which has a diesel consumption of just 3.1 l/100 km, corresponding to CO2 emissions of only 82 g/km.

In terms of safety systems, the Skoda Fabia features Front Assistant with integrated City Emergency Braking. A radar sensor integrated into the front of the vehicle constantly monitors the distance to traffic ahead, intervening when this distance is insufficient relative to your vehicle, thus avoiding a collision. Other safety systems available on the Skoda Combi include fatigue detection, electronic tyre pressure monitoring, etc.

On the other hand, when it comes to comfort, the optional equipment includes KESSY (Keyless Entry Start and exit SYstem), front and rear parking sensors, the new electromechanical steering and a large glass panoramic roof.

The new Skoda Fabia will be available in Europe in early November, although there is no information yet on prices or the range.

Now let’s move on to the new Skoda Fabia Combi, a vehicle that, like the Skoda Fabia, is 90 mm wider and 31 mm lower than its predecessors.

Its design is identical to the Skoda Fabia, so let’s talk about other aspects such as its large boot, with a capacity of 30 litres (1,395 litres with the rear seats folded down), making it the largest in its segment, an increase of 25 litres compared with its predecessor.

The new ŠKODA Fabia Combi has a removable retractable cover for the boot, which features a convenient push-button function: press the edge of the extended cover and it will roll back up.

Two bag hooks are available in the boot. The optional net system consists of two storage nets (two vertical and one horizontal) to keep the boot space tidy. In addition, an optional flexible boot storage compartment can hold various items in place.

A height-adjustable boot floor is optionally available. It is a removable tray that divides the boot into two horizontal compartments. By sliding the tray into two slots, it remains in its upper position. The tray can also be locked at an angle to make loading and unloading easier.

Customers can choose from a total of three petrol engines (from 75 to 110 CV) and three diesel engines (from 75 to 105 CV), with Start-Stop system and brake energy recovery.

The new Skoda Fabia Combi will be available in Europe in January 2015.
