The French brand already has the world’s first diesel hybrid ready: the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, which will have a total output of 200 CV, thanks to the 163 CV diesel engine together with an electric motor delivering 37 CV. Power is distributed so that it sends its output to the front and rear axles respectively.

All of this makes it possible for this MPV with an SUV-inspired look to achieve fairly low consumption and CO2 emission figures, at 3.8 litres per 100 km and around 99 g/km. However, we will have to wait until the spring of 2011 before it goes on sale and can be seen on the road.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 stands out for offering four different driving modes: Auto, ZEV, 4WD and Sport. Auto mode electrically manages the transitions between the electric motor and the thermal engine; in ZEV position it runs entirely on electric power, ideal for short distances. 4WD mode, on the other hand, lets the diesel engine drive the front axle while the electric motor does the same with the rear. Finally, Sport mode delivers quicker gear changes and higher engine speeds.

As for its engines, the 2.0 HDi 163 CV has a reduced maximum torque of around 300 Nm, developed at about 1,580 rpm, while maximum power is delivered at about 3,750 rpm. It features a second-generation Stop&Start system as well as a 6-speed manual gearbox with automated shift (BMP6). The electric motor, for its part, provides a continuous output of about 27 CV and a maximum of 37 CV, along with a continuous torque of 100 Nm and a peak of about 200 Nm.

Another system that helps reduce consumption and emissions is regenerative braking, which captures the energy generated when the brake pedal is pressed, converts it into electricity and stores it in the nickel-metal hydride batteries developed by Sanyo. These batteries are also located very close to the electric motor, which means boot capacity is reduced by about 12 litres.

Alongside all these changes, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 also receives styling updates. Outside, we can see LED-type lights, a new air intake, a new rear bumper and design alloy wheels. Inside, depending on the version, it features a multifunction display that provides information about the vehicle.
