Peugeot 607 Coupé. What could have been, but never was.

We found some photos online of what could have been the 607 Coupé. It was most likely an old prototype that should have been shown at some international motor show, but for reasons we are unaware of, Peugeot did not consider it necessary.

Despite the age of the 607’s design, the Coupé prototype looks quite attractive and would have followed the line set by the 407 Coupé. Perhaps the poor reception the 407 Coupé received (launched in early 2006) led the French brand to ultimately decide against producing the 607 Coupé. A shame, because it would have been interesting to see how the Peugeot held its own against the BMW 6 Series or the Mercedes CL.

The Peugeot 607 is a luxury saloon produced from September 1999 until June 2010. Almost 11 years in which its commercial success was modest. It is a car with a very spacious cabin and boot, and it offers good engines and finishes. It is still being sold today with excellent discounts as dealers need to clear the accumulated stock.

At Highmotor we have tested both the Peugeot 607 and the 407 Coupé, both fitted with V6 HDI diesel engines. You can read our 607 2.7 V6 HDI 204 CV test by clicking here (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3), and the 407 Coupé 3.0 V6 HDi 240 CV test by clicking here (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3).
