Peugeot E-5008 Dog Edition: the perfect car for travelling with your loyal companion

The Peugeot E-5008 Dog Edition is a creative exercise that seeks to forge an emotional connection with dog owners, exploring new ways to make travelling by car with pets a more enjoyable experience.

Peugeot has just unveiled the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, a unique prototype developed specifically for dog owners. Based on the five-seat version of the popular electric SUV E-5008, this prototype shows how the vehicles of the future could be better adapted to the needs of families who travel with their pets. Unfortunately for them, however, this design exercise carried out in collaboration with the Stellantis Design Studio will not reach the market for the time being, as the French manufacturer itself has confirmed.

The main focus of this concept is making journeys with dogs easier. Among its standout features is a modular mat that serves both to protect the boot during the journey and to become a comfortable bed outside the car. It also includes a padded cushion so the animal can rest its head against the window, protective mats, integrated feeding bowls and a connected harness. One of the most ingenious solutions is a dog dryer that works thanks to the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function and is stored beneath the boot floor, allowing the animal to be dried after a walk in the rain, a trip to the beach or a dip in a fountain.

The French manufacturer has thought of everything

In the digital domain, Peugeot has incorporated features designed exclusively for pet owners. The navigation system recommends charging stops near green areas or walking trails. The Dog Guardian mode monitors the interior temperature and sends alerts to the owner if it detects that the dog has been left alone in the vehicle. For its part, the Dog Retriever function emits an audible signal to help locate a dog that has wandered off.

From a technical standpoint, the vehicle has not undergone any changes and retains exactly the same powertrain, battery and performance as the standard E-5008, since the goal of this prototype was not to improve performance but to demonstrate a higher level of comfort and practicality for animal lovers.

With this proposal, Peugeot responds to a growing trend. According to a recent study, 64 per cent of dog owners want to take their pet on holiday, and more than 60 per cent say that the presence of the animal influences their choice of destination. Although elements such as the dryer or the Dog Retriever mode are unlikely to reach series production, the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept highlights the potential of the V2L system and the possibility of creating vehicles better suited to today’s lifestyles.
