Pope Francis receives his own Lamborghini Huracan
Pope Francis has just received a brand-new Lamborghini Huracan, which will be auctioned in May, with the proceeds donated to charitable organisations.

When we think of a supercar, we always associate it with celebrities, television or music stars. But there are occasions when this changes and the owner of such a supercar can be the last person you would expect. This is the case of Pope Francis, who has received his new brand-new Lamborghini Huracan as a gift from the brand.
Specifically, he has received a Lamborghini Huracan LP-580-2, the most radical version of the Italian sports car -with the Performante’s permission- thanks to its rear-wheel drive. The Sant’Agata Bolognese company has entirely gifted this very special unit, which features a unique design in honour of His Holiness. The handover of the vehicle took place in the Vatican, where it was blessed and signed by the Pope himself.
The design of this very special Huracan features some changes compared to a standard unit. During the manufacturing process, this vehicle passed through the hands of Ad Personam, a department of the Italian firm dedicated to creating unique colours for its most special clients. The Pope’s Huracan has been painted in Bianco Monocerus and given details in Giallo Tiberino -yellow- with the intention of representing the colours of the Vatican flag.

The Huracan’s mechanics have not been modified for the occasion. Under the bonnet we still find the same naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine, which produces 580 CV in the rear-wheel-drive version. The powerful engine is paired with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox, which blends perfectly with the Huracan’s mechanics.
Even so, we will not see Pope Francis behind the wheel of his brand-new Lamborghini, as it will be put up for auction in mid-next year. Both the supercar manufacturer and the Holy Father have stated that the money raised will be donated to charitable causes. Specifically, it will go to Aiuto alla Chiesa che Soffre, an association that helps Christians who are persecuted for their religion, as well as helping women who have been forced into prostitution and used in human trafficking, and supporting families without resources in Africa.

The auction will take place on 18 May 2018 and will be conducted by RM Sotheby’s. For the moment we do not know the starting price of this very special Lamborghini Huracan, but it will surely not be low, and the figures reached could well sit far above the base price.
