Porsche is planning to launch special editions based on its most classic models

The Stuttgart brand will launch special editions inspired by the Porsche 911 from 1950 to 1980.

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur has announced plans to launch a handful of special editions inspired by the vehicles produced between 1950 and 1980. The Stuttgart brand has been reticent about giving more details, but the cars will be based on the legendary Porsche 911 and will represent “particularly emotive concepts with references to history within the product strategy of Porsche“.

That is not much to go on, but Porsche is marketing them as “lifestyle” vehicles that will follow in the footsteps of the Porsche 911 Speedster with the Heritage Design package. As a result, the upcoming models will feature special paint jobs and decorations, as well as “design elements of the corresponding era”. We can also expect materials for the interiors with retro inspiration, such as corduroy and tartan, as well as houndstooth and Pasha patterns.

The Stuttgart brand has stated that the special editions will be released “at certain intervals and in limited quantities”. The first will be presented next year and will feature a Porsche logo that was used in the sixties. The German manufacturer would also be creating matching watches exclusively for owners who are part of the exclusive and select group of Heritage Design vehicles.

Fans who don’t want to join the crowd for a special edition will have no luck, as the company will also offer heritage design packages on the Porsche 911. The cars will have “selected elements” from several decades. That seems to suggest there could be a 1950 Heritage Design package, a 1960 Heritage Design package and so on.

Porsche Heritage Design, a return to its roots

Although Porsche has not included many details, the Heritage Design package on the Porsche 911 Speedster will add a metallic GT exterior design with a white front fascia and numbered decals on the doors and bonnet. The design package will also include Porsche logos that were used in the 1950s and 1960s.

“For us it is vital to carry the brand’s values into the future. The Heritage Design models represent a deliberate addition to today’s hybrid and electric vehicles, as part of the technical innovations in the approach,” said Boris Apenbrink, Director of Manufaktur Vehicles Exclusive at Porsche. “Porsche set benchmarks in terms of design and style from the very beginning: vehicles from different eras are style icons today. We are bringing back these iconic looks and thereby demonstrating that Porsche will stay true to its roots, even in the age of electrification,” added Ivo van Hulten, Director Porsche Interior Design Style.

“Individual memories that are brought back to life by certain colour schemes, a feeling or patterns – this is a trend we also observe in fashion or interior design and forms the fundamental idea of our approach,” added van Hulten. “The different ways of processing titanium and the Porsche Design chronograph function, corresponding and individual, are features of this series. Together with especially interpreted patterns such as houndstooth or tartan, this results in a unique collection of watches that pays tribute to the history of the brand,” said Gerhard J. Novak, General Manager of Porsche Design Timepieces.
