Porsche has unveiled a special tribute to the iconic Swiss driver who tragically died in an accident at the 1971 Formula 1 Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, Jo Siffert with an exclusive 911 GT3 RS, a tribute that combines the rich history of motorsport with modern innovation. This vehicle, the result of meticulous personalisation both inside and out, is inspired by the legendary Porsche 917 with which Siffert and his teammate Kurt Ahrens achieved a memorable victory almost 55 years ago.

The 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert was designed by the experts at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur under the Sonderwunsch programme. This unique model not only celebrates Siffert’s career, but also highlights the wide personalisation possibilities offered by Porsche. Painted in an elegant Pure White, the car features Viper Green details, evoking the design of the original 917.

Participation of the Siffert Family

The creation of this vehicle has involved the close collaboration of the Siffert family. Philippe Siffert, the driver’s son and also a former racing driver, together with his son Jérémy, actively took part in the design process at the Zuffenhausen workshops. “Seeing this Porsche transform into a tribute to my father has been an incredibly emotional experience,” said Philippe Siffert. The attention to historical detail and the artisanal quality make this car a truly special piece.

Details inspired by the 917

This tribute features numerous nods to the Porsche 917 with which Siffert gained fame. The green sections on the front wings and nose, together with the number 29 on the doors and bonnet, replicate the look of the original car. The sponsor decals of the era, such as Bosch and Shell, have been reproduced with precision, adding a nostalgic touch to the design.

The silhouette of the 917 appears on several elements of the car, from the centre lock nut of the magnesium wheels to the side plates of the rear spoiler. Even the special badge on the B-pillars, which bears the helmet design, the name and the signature of Jo Siffert, pays homage to the driver.

The interior of the 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert radiates a racing atmosphere, dominated by black and Guards Red Race-Tex fabric. The headrests are adorned with Siffert’s helmet motif, while the door sill protectors combine the silhouette of the 917 with the driver’s signature. The personalisation extends to the vehicle key, which features the same colours and meticulous details.

Celebrating history

The 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert will be displayed at the Porsche Centres in Switzerland from August 2024 and will be one of the stars of the “Auto Zürich” show in November of the same year. Those interested in acquiring this unique vehicle will have the opportunity to take part in a draw in Switzerland, where the lucky winner will be able to buy this automotive jewel.

Joseph “Jo” Siffert remains a cult figure in Switzerland, remembered for his talent and charisma in the world of motorsport. His historic victory at the Österreichring on 10 August 1969 alongside Kurt Ahrens marked the beginning of the legend of the Porsche 917. “Jo Siffert started the 917’s success story with a passion that still impresses today and fits perfectly with the spirit of our brand: Driven by Dreams,” said Michael Glinski, Managing Director of Porsche Switzerland.
