Porsche Taycan Electric Cars Videos
This is how Porsche has managed to make the Taycan sound almost like it has a combustion engine
The Porsche Taycan is one of the first electric vehicles to feature a realistic artificial exhaust system, and that is how its development unfolded.

First came the hybrids, cars that bet on a system more beneficial for the environment as well as for our wallets. Then electric cars made their stellar debut, an alternative that seemed to make a lot of sense for urban journeys. But brands such as Porsche believed in the potential of this type of mobility and its ability to bring to life sporty vehicles, with the new Taycan being irrefutable proof of this with its high performance and its stylish design.
Despite the surprising performance not only of the German saloon but also of any sporty electric car, many petrolheads were skeptical of this intrusion, which many interpreted as a crude outrage. And the truth is that electric cars were losing a very important element that every good petrolhead admires: the sound of the engine.
Porsche, known for creating some of the most striking melodies of all time thanks to its six-cylinder boxer engines, decided to do the same with the new Taycan. The German firm set up a sound design department ready to create a soundtrack for its first electric offspring that would live up to what our ears had enjoyed until now.

After months of hard work, it was possible to conceive a digital sound designed to simulate the acceleration and the power delivered. We must not forget that the Porsche Taycan has a two-speed gearbox, which adds a bit more realism to that sound, which even makes an appearance at idle. Another key aspect is that the German company has managed to develop two types of sound: one when we drive at low speeds and another when we want to squeeze out every last drop of the Taycan’s sportiness.
Tobias Hiller, Director of Active Sound Design, states that this is a very important step in the electric segment and that the Taycan will be remembered in 30, 50 and even 70 years as the pioneer of electric car sound. At the same time, there is still a lot of work ahead and many aspects to polish and improve, but the realism that the German electric car brings to driving thanks to that soundtrack is undeniable.

Little by little, Porsche will keep bringing us more bets of the caliber of the Taycan, a model that has come to stay and is ready to establish a new era within the brand. With this premise, it is only a matter of time before we see more vehicles from the German firm relying on electric propulsion systems accompanied by unprecedented music.
