The Trident Iceni Grand Tourer is unveiled: a diesel with a top speed of 320 km/h

Trident will unveil its Iceni Grand Tourer in September, a high-performance diesel that could reach a top speed of 320 km/h and that runs on other types of oil as well as diesel.

Trident will unveil the Iceni Prive show in the United Kingdom, this diesel that will surely not disappoint those who are passionate admirers of high-performance engines. The first question is whether it is worth almost £100,000 for a diesel, when for the same money (and even less) there are plenty of opportunities to buy models with a significant pedigree.

Despite everything, this British artisan manufacturer will finally present a model that had suffered delays and that has been in its plans for around five years; equipped with a 6.6-litre twin-turbo diesel producing 430 horsepower in its entry-level version, buyers can add an extra performance package that raises it to 630 horsepower.

The announced performance figures point to numbers worth noting: 3.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed approaching 320 km/h. Even so, the Iceni Grand Tourer cannot avoid offering some fuel-saving technology, as it features a system developed by Trident called Torque Multiplication, which keeps the engine turning at very low revs when driving at reduced speeds, just 980 rpm at 110 km/h; at that speed on the motorway, the announced range is “more than 3,200 kilometres” from a full tank.

Trident also says its model can run on biodiesel, as well as palm oil and linseed oil. I know the first is one of the components of biodiesel, but the situation that could arise is still strange: if you run out of fuel, you could go to a supermarket, buy a few bottles of oil and carry on your journey. In other words, it is a rather exotic sports car when it comes to the fuels it can burn.
