Test drive of the Audi A4 35 TFSI 150 CV, 5 key points of analysis for an ECO-badged saloon
We tested the Audi A4 in its entry-level petrol variant, the 35 TFSI with 150 CV and a sporty look thanks to the Black Line Edition trim.

However much SUVs may be the trend, and saloons are giving way to other models in the ranges, there are still interesting offerings coming from the long-standing expertise in doing things well. And I say long-standing because the Audi A4 we are analysing is a model that has been on the market for years, but that does not make it any less interesting.
In our test, we want to offer a 5-point analysis of this saloon, so that you can get to know in depth a striking car that, moreover, stands out for the exterior configuration of our test unit with the Black Line Edition trim. Without further ado, let’s begin the analysis of the Audi A4 35 TFSI 150 CV S Tronic, or in other words, the entry version of the Audi A4 range.
1. Sporty design with an entry-level engine

Our test unit stands out for its sportiness, since choosing the entry-level petrol engine does not mean giving up a sporty look, and Audi reminds us of this with this configuration with the Black Line Edition trim (which adds black exterior details to the S Line trim) and optional Sport alloy wheels.
I was very surprised that the twin rear exhaust outlets are “real“, now that many brands have us used to outlets that are merely decorative, so a point for Audi.
Finally, the exterior colour, halfway between white and blue, means our Audi A4 does not go unnoticed anywhere, despite, as I said, being a well-known vehicle with a long pedigree.
2. Spacious interior with quality fit and finish

Behind the wheel of the Audi A4 35 TFSI we find sporty seats – typical of the S Line trim – in leather, which hold the body perfectly and provide a great deal of interior comfort. That said, if you have the choice, it is better not to have full leather (they are cold in winter and very hot in summer, but that is a personal opinion).
The driving position is comfortable, everything is within reach, with correct ergonomics, and although it has the multimedia systems usual for the brand, the menus are easy and intuitive. The rear seats have enough space for feet and head, are comfortable and have air vents.

The quality of the finishes is in line with the model and segment, and fortunately it has not been “invaded” by glossy plastics; the “piano black” finish is limited to the centre console, while the rest of the areas maintain a good standard of finish.
3. 150 CV engine, with ECO badge

The petrol unit chosen for the entry point of the range is a 2.0 four-cylinder turbo, which in its entry-level variant delivers 150 CV. Thanks to mild hybrid technology, it incorporates a small electric motor and a battery, which helps it achieve the ECO badge.

It is an extremely smooth engine in every respect, both in acceleration and when cruising at relaxed speeds. It is not sporty, but it is sufficient for day-to-day use. Its most notable feature: smoothness.
That said, the mild hybrid system does not reduce consumption figures very much, which are on the high side but understandable for a 2.0 petrol engine. On our road test route, the lowest figure we achieved was 6.9 litres per 100 km, while in mixed road/city driving the figure rises to 7.5 litres per 100 km.
In urban driving, it is easy to reach 10 litres per 100 km; this may seem high, but it is understandable given the engine capacity.
4. Stable: ready for more power

Although this Audi A4 35 TFSI is the entry version, its dynamic behaviour is surprising. Our unit had the sport suspension, which is noticeable on the road. Although its engine does not seek sportiness, it is a car with noble, predictable reactions on winding roads or mountain passes and it is stable on the motorway.
It has several driving modes, ranging from Comfort (which adjusts the suspension for greater travel and better absorption of bumps) to Dynamic (with greater firmness).
5. Price and personal opinion on the Audi A4 35 TFSI 150 CV S Tronic

To conclude this analysis of the Audi A4 in its entry version, I was struck by the combination of a sporty trim with an entry-level engine. The 150 CV unit is more than sufficient for most drivers, and at the same time, you do not give up a sporty and striking look.
The engine is smooth but consumption is high, even with the ECO badge. It stands out for its equipment, since it comes fairly well equipped as standard and there is no long list of extras. It is available from 47,480 euros, and with the Black Line Edition trim it starts at 51,180 euros (with practically everything important as standard).

Among the options, I recommend the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D sound (1,475 euros), which is well worth it, unlike the Audi Sound System, which barely improves on the original sound setup. I also recommend not fitting the leather seats, because of the typical thermal drawbacks of leather.
