Qoros 9 Sedan Concept: a look at its future luxury saloon

While Qoros prepares the European launch of its 3 Sedan and 3 Hatch models, its design team is already working on the future products that will expand its range at the top end. The Chinese-Israeli manufacturer is very young, barely seven years old, and so is the designer who conceived the prototype that previews its next saloon for 2020.
Jihoon Seo, a 29-year-old Korean design student, created the Qoros 9 Sedan Concept as a final degree project commissioned by the brand, in whose Shanghai design studio he did his internship. A 1:4.5 scale clay model of this prototype was presented this month at the Degree Show of the School of Art and Design at the University of Coventry, where Seo studied.

The Qoros 9 Sedan Concept represents the manufacturer’s entry into the model generation called “New Premium“, with which it seeks to attract a more mature and affluent but also urban type of customer. The press release mentions aesthetic features shared with the 3 Sedan and the 3 Hatch, but these are difficult to find on the 9 beyond the chrome strip on the grille and the shape of the side windows. This flagship saloon stands out instead for its great width and its bulging and rectilinear forms.
It is also striking that the nose, with its hard expression and prominent LED headlights, is as tall or even slightly taller than the rear, which gives it a rather peculiar appearance. The features that can be seen on other brands’ prototypes are the enormous 19-inch wheels and the high waistline, which help create a more robust image.

On the Qoros 9 Sedan Concept, the exterior mirrors have been replaced by rear-view cameras mounted beneath the side indicators. At the rear, the chrome outlines of the boot lid and the car’s broad hips stand out. Not all of these ideas may make it into a production model, but Qoros intends to use this prototype as inspiration for the near future.
