Ranking 2026: the 6 family SUVs with the best equipment for travelling under 50,000 euros
2026 comparison of family SUVs with the best standard equipment for travelling for less than 50,000 euros, with power, boot space, seats and DGT label
Travelling as a family with five suitcases, two child seats and a dog in the back is still, in 2026, one of the toughest tests for any car. Having space is not enough: the driver assistance systems need to work well on the motorway, the boot needs to fit a buggy without a game of Tetris, and fuel consumption must not spoil the return trip. We have reviewed the Spanish market to select six family SUVs that, under 50,000 euros, offer the most sensible balance between equipment, space and DGT label.
What a true family SUV should have in 2026
Not everything sold as “family” really is. To make this ranking we demanded three things: a useful boot of more than 600 litres in the five-seat configuration, ADAS as standard from the entry trim — emergency braking, rear collision warning and lane keeping assist, at a minimum — and an electrified powertrain eligible for an ECO or CERO label. We already discussed the real importance of boot litres in our guide to family SUVs with an XL boot, and here we apply that same criterion without concessions.
We have also looked at each manufacturer’s historical reliability, something we covered in detail in our ranking of the most reliable family SUVs. A well-equipped SUV that spends half its life in the workshop is no good for travelling.
Ranking 2026: the 6 family SUVs with the best equipment for travelling
1. Skoda Kodiaq — from 46,800 €
The second-generation Kodiaq is, in our view, the one that best divides the budget between space and technology. 13-inch screen, lane keeping assist with wide-angle camera and an optional third row that turns the car into a reasonable seven-seater, not just a brochure promise.
| Engine | Power CV | Power kW | WLTP consumption | Label | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 TSI mHEV | 150 CV | 110 kW | 6.3 l/100 km | ECO | Petrol/mHEV |

2. Peugeot 5008 — from 34,390 €
The second generation changed body and gained versatility: the third row slides and folds independently, something none of the others in this ranking offers in the same way. The 145 CV hybrid is no rocket, but it is enough for motorway driving with four adults and luggage.
| Engine | Power CV | Power kW | WLTP consumption | Label | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hybrid 145 | 145 CV | 107 kW | 5.2 l/100 km | ECO | Hybrid |

3. Hyundai Santa Fe — from 49,640 €
The boxy design divides opinion, but inside it is probably the most spacious of the six. The fifth generation brings a 215 CV hybrid with optional all-wheel drive and a safety package that includes blind-spot detection with active braking. For long journeys, this is one of the best to drive on the motorway.
| Engine | Power CV | Power kW | WLTP consumption | Label | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6 T-GDI Hybrid | 239 CV | 175 kW | 6.4 l/100 km | ECO | Hybrid |

4. Kia Sorento — from 49,640 €
Mechanically it is a close cousin of the Santa Fe, but the Sorento plays the seven-year warranty card, an argument that weighs more than it seems on paper for a family purchase. Boot of 608 litres with all three rows in use and 2,011 with the last row folded.
| Engine | Power CV | Power kW | WLTP consumption | Label | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6 T-GDI Hybrid | 215 CV | 158 kW | 6.4 l/100 km | ECO | Hybrid |
5. Nissan X-Trail — from 33,050 €
A curious technical solution: the petrol engine only generates electricity, the wheels are always driven by the electric motor. It is enjoyable in town; on the motorway consumption rises more than expected. Seven seats, with a third row that is tight but functional for short trips with children.
| Engine | Power CV | Power kW | WLTP consumption | Label | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 e-POWER | 213 CV | 158 kW | 6.1 l/100 km | ECO | Hybrid |

How to choose between them according to your type of trip
If the plan is to drive many motorway kilometres with the whole family, the Santa Fe and the Sorento are, in our view, the ones that best justify the investment. If budget is the priority and use is more urban with occasional getaways, the Tarraco remains hard to beat on price per seat. And if what you want is real versatility in the boot without giving up technology, the 5008 and the Kodiaq compete for that spot. It is also worth remembering that some of these hybrid versions may benefit from the Plan Auto+ aid in force at the time of purchase, whose amount should always be checked on the official website before signing.
