Renault Mégane E-Tech Alpine Line, the boldest version of the new French electric car

Following the announcement of the arrival of the fully electric Mégane E-Tech, the brand has unveiled the Alpine Line version, which will have a sporty spirit, like the RS.

In a market where high-performance engines with traditional fuel are disappearing, these sporty lines need to be updated and adapted to its new needs. And that means electrifying the engines. For example, the RS Line of the French brand Renault is facing its end and will be replaced by the Alpine Line.

With this decision, the vehicles that until now were part of the brand’s sporty line will now belong to this new line, in which electric traction will be the norm. The sporty models of Renault will carry the Alpine Line designation, which will extend to models such as the Kadjar. But the first model to carry this badge will be the new Mégane E-Tech crossover.

According to L’Argus, this model, arriving in March 2022, will be the first to use this sportier configuration. This variant is scheduled to reach the market in 2023. It will be the equivalent of the Mégane RS, so it will offer higher performance than the base version.

Better performance

The performance of this variant will be somewhat higher than the rest. To begin with, the electric motor will rise from 240 CV instead of the 220 CV offered by the other variants. The battery powering this motor will reach 87 kWh of capacity, so its range will be quite appealing.

These performance figures will allow the model to compete with other SUVs of the same style, with a sporty spirit, such as the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX. The German brand also is replacing its traditional GTI badge with GTX to embrace electric mobility.

The decorative elements of the Mégane E-Tech Alpine Line will include carbon fibre and blue details, identifying the Alpine range. This will be the first to use the badge, but it will also be seen on the already confirmed Renault 5 electric. This could be the successor to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo, in performance and power. Later it will be included in the Kadjar and also in future electric models, such as the other electric SUV that Renault is preparing.
