Renault postpones the new Laguna and Espace

Great caution will be the dominant theme among brands in the coming months and perhaps during the next few years. On the part of Renault, the process to reduce losses and turn around the negative figures that have dominated the French brand in recent months has already begun.

This process will start with two models that will not receive updates in the short term. These are the new generations of the Laguna and Espace, which will be set aside while the outlook in Europe becomes clearer.

These models will not receive updates until 2015, when a new production line comes into operation at the French plant in Douai, in line with the brand’s decision. And all this despite the fact that, by the time they are due to be renewed, both vehicles will already have a long market life, averaging around 10 years.

All of this has a lot to do with the “strategic” moves being made to optimise costs: production of certain models is being moved to other plants, or production lines are being freed up for vehicles that bring more profit to the company. The Espace or the Laguna are unlikely to be models with very high profit margins if Renault is going to stretch their lifespan this much.
