Renault Scenic 2013 (12)

Renault has revealed the facelift that the Scenic and Grand Scenic will receive by mid-year. These two MPVs will be presented worldwide next month at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Under the name Scenic XMOD, a version with greater ground clearance and reinforced underbody will also debut, capable of driving on roads in poor condition.

In terms of design, the main changes to the Scenic facelift are a front end very similar to that of the Clio and Fluence, a larger logo and a redesigned grille with gloss black finishes. Its biggest novelty is the option of fitting a device called R-Link, which allows apps to be downloaded from the brand’s own storeRenault, R-Link Store, just like on a smartphone. It comes with a touchscreen.

The third generation of the French model offers three engines, including the TCe 130 petrol version, which introduces small changes that reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% compared with the version currently on sale. As a result, the average cycle of this engine will be just under 7 litres/100 km.

In Geneva, Renault will showcase for the second time in its history a rugged version of the Scenic. Compared with the MPV presented previously, the XMOD offers its customers greater ground clearance, reinforced bumpers, roof rails and, finally, Extended Grip, a centre console control that adjusts traction and stability control depending on driving conditions.

Mechanically, it will use the same engines as the Scenic and, unlike the model launched at the beginning of the century, the XMOD does not offer the option of all-wheel drive, which is really useful if you are going to take the car into low-grip conditions such as a muddy track.
