Repsol, Cepsa and Shell: new fuel discounts after 31 March

On 31 March, with the start of Holy Week, the discount at petrol stations comes to an end. Cepsa, Repsol and Shell have already announced new discounts from 1 April

Several oil companies, such as Repsol, Cepsa, Galp, Shell, Disa and BP, have been offering special promotions in the form of a direct discount for their loyal customers. Until last 31 December, oil consumers could get a 20 cent discount per litre supplied. Currently, since 1 January, the Government has eliminated the aid, so the oil companies themselves have been applying a discount of up to 10 cents per litre on average.

Petrol in Spain is one of the most expensive in Europe and with the start-of-Holy-Week exodus and demand, a rise in prices is expected.

Tomorrow the Holy Week travel begins and many drivers will want to set off on holiday with a full tank.

This month of March we have seen regular petrol exceed 1.65 euros per litre on average supplied. Today, Thursday 30 March 2023, we find prices well below the peaks we reached of almost 2 euros a litre: petrol stands at an average of 1.638 euros a litre, while diesel remains a little further off, reaching 1.539 euros a litre.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has dropped slightly, standing today at 0.981 euros per kilo. Meanwhile, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has not changed significantly, remaining at 1.389 euros per litre.

These are good figures compared with the previous year: as early as 1 April 2022 the price of petrol was 10% above today’s, reaching 1.83 euros per litre. However, diesel has seen a larger drop of 14.5%, standing at 1.53 euros per litre, when last year it was at 1.83 euros per litre.

New promotions

Repsol is launching a new plan in which, depending on the services you contract with them and using their Waylet app, the greater your discount will be, which will range between 5 and 20 cents per litre, including plans for car, electricity, heating and solar, which can be combined as the customer wishes. For electric or PHEV cars the discount ranges between 3% and 10% of the amount.

Cepsa, on the other hand, has announced a new plan available from 1 to 15 April, “Porque Tú Vuelves”. It offers its customers a direct discount of 5 cents per litre on conventional fuels and up to 6 cents per litre on the Optima range. From 15 April, they will continue their current promotion, which consists of accumulating a certain percentage of the refuelling, so that it can be applied to future refuelling or to purchases of products in their shops.

Galp is launching a new campaign, “Mueve tu Mundo”. Valid from 1 April and through its loyalty app, Mundo Galp, it is divided into three independent offers in multi-energy plans, which include both fuels and solutions such as solar self-consumption and EV charging. It offers a direct discount of five cents of a euro per litre to all app users on petrol, diesel and LPG. However, premium fuels – Evologic will have a discount of 10 cents of a euro per litre. Users who install solar panels for self-consumption will receive a discount of up to 15 cents of a euro per litre on regular fuels and 20 cents of a euro per litre on premium Evologic fuels. They also offer electric vehicle users a 15% discount on their charging.

At Shell, they announce their promotion “one day of free refuelling a month“. They no longer apply any direct discount; instead, the company will announce a random day each month, and people who refuelled on exactly that day of the previous month will be able to fill their tank for free up to a maximum of 50 euros.

BP has not yet announced any new discount plan. Until now, the British company BP offered a discount of 10 cents per litre through its app. This campaign expires on the 2nd of April, so we expect to receive news soon about its new discount plans.
