Revealed: the location of what will be the largest Supercharger station in the world
As the number of electric vehicles on the roads keeps growing, charging stations need ever greater capacity and a larger number of charging points
Tesla wants once and for all to end the excessive waiting times some of its customers have to endure in California just to start a charge at one of the company’s Superchargers. And to do so, there is no other way than to think big.
According to a leak just published on X, the American firm plans to open a new Supercharger station in California with at least 164 charging points. That figure would nearly double that of the largest Supercharger station Tesla currently operates, which is none other than the one located at the Harris Ranch complex in Coalinga (California). That station has 98 Superchargers, 66 fewer than the minimum the new station we are talking about will have.

The documents we have accessed also reveal the location of this future Supercharger station. According to them, Tesla has decided that, given the high traffic density in that area, the right place for its opening is Kern County (California), near the I-5 and the interchange with Highway 46.
Tesla has also thought about those who travel with their home in tow
Also worth mentioning is that of the 164 charging points at this new Supercharger station, 16 of them will be designed specifically to make charging easier for customers travelling with a trailer. In addition, Tesla plans for all the bays to have a canopy that lets customers shelter from rain and sun. The company also wants these canopies to carry solar panels, in order to recover part of the energy consumed daily at the station.
For now, what remains to be confirmed is the date when works will begin and when this new Supercharger station is expected to start operating normally. Although this information does not appear in the leaked documents, experience tells us it would not be surprising if we learn more about it in the coming months.

California has always been the region of the world with the highest-capacity Supercharger stations, but if we look at charging stations in general, China takes the prize with the one in the city of Shenzhen, which has, no more and no less, 637 charging points.
