Roewe 950, the successor to the Roewe 750

We hadn’t heard anything about Roewe for a while. The brand, owned by SAIC, holds the rights to the defunct MG and Rover names. The previous 750 model, was threatening to reach the old continent, but in the end we never saw it on our shores. A shame, on the other hand, because the car really did look promising.

The brand is now back on the charge with a new model, the Roewe 950, which replaces the previous 750. It’s something to see how Chinese brands are learning, because even though we haven’t seen it in person, the car’s staging is interesting and the design is developing a personality of its own (unlike others that keep blatantly copying).

Thanks to the joint venture that SAIC has with GM, the new 950 shares its platform with the Opel Insignia (a real guarantee), and it will be presented at the Beijing Motor Show in a few days. We should also highlight the interior finish, with the dashboard covered in leather, and a level of finishing more typical of a premium brand than of a Chinese one.

As for the engine range, three petrol engines can be chosen: a 2.0 TGI with 220 CV, a 2.4i with 170 CV and a 3.0i V6 with 280 CV, all paired with an automatic gearbox. It’s a pity that this brand’s products aren’t seen in Europe, because both this Roewe 950 and the MG6 look very promising.
