Rumor: BMW wants to celebrate the Nürburgring victory in style with the M3 GTS-R

To give you an idea of how important the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race is for manufacturers, and given that BMW wasn’t even expecting to win, the boys from the German brand are now going to unleash their full arsenal on the market. In Munich, there’s a rumour that the BMW M3 GTS will have an even more wicked sibling: the M3 GTS-R.
The M3 GTS-R would be a commemorative version of the triumph at the Green Hell last Sunday. BMW’s engineers were quick to picture what this new M3 would need: the same 4.4-litre V8 engine, paired with a regenerative KERS system and extra power, industrial quantities of carbon fibre and a matt black finish for the bodywork and wheels, so it won’t go unnoticed.
Although they don’t mention it, this rumoured M3 GTS-R is almost certain to carry reminders of the Nürburgring win everywhere. For now it wouldn’t include a power increase for the engine (it’s said to be one more option under evaluation).
As on the racing car, the rear wheel arches will be widened as the brand has historically done on its competition cars, so we’ll love the M3 even more, although this is only a rumour that BMW has neither confirmed nor denied yet.
