Rumors are already pointing the way: the Toyota Celica could return very soon
The Toyota Celica has been one of the best-selling models from Toyota over 36 years and, although it stopped being sold in 2006, it could return soon

The Toyota Celica has become one of the most iconic models of the Japanese brand and, over the 36 years it was on sale, it has been one of the best-selling models of the marque. It left the market in 2006, but everything points to it being available again very soon.
The Celica was a car with a coupé body and even a convertible in some versions, so its look was quite appealing and many drivers wanted to enjoy driving this model. Rumours of its return have surfaced every so often, although this time it seems they have decided to give it a chance and it is believed that they are working on a new variant.

A new era for the Celica
The registration of the Celica name in 2021 suggested that this new model was getting closer. That said, the new Celica could have been an electric vehicle or one with a fuel cell, which did not convince the model’s devoted fans. But the latest news from Japan points attention towards a car with a turbocharged ICE engine, and of course, all-wheel drive.
According to the latest hints the manufacturer has been dropping in recent days, it could be powered by the new four-cylinder engine developed jointly with Subaru and Mazda. This would be a 1.5-litre unit and a 2.0-litre unit, both compatible with some form of electrification. In addition, it could be compatible with alternative fuels, so it would have plenty of potential to be fully sustainable.

Everything points to the Toyota Gazoo Racing division being in charge of developing this new incarnation of the Celica. To shape it, it would use the GR-Four all-wheel drive system, which several versions of its rally models use. The rumours are strengthened by the announcement that the power of this new Celica could have a maximum output of 400 CV.
As for its look, if the Celica is to be brought back, the design of this model must be kept. The coupé body would be the one chosen to shape this new incarnation of the model. Inside, it would have a more luxurious and comfortable touch than the latest Celicas. Its future could be to become the flagship of the brand and make it a car to be reckoned with once again.
There is no official confirmation of any of this, but it is expected that at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show we will have more information on which to base this information, which for now remains within the realm of rumour and expectation about a car that many are eager to have back.
