SEAT in the duotrailer project, the largest and most efficient truck in Europe

SEAT and Grupo Sesé are collaborating to improve road transport with pilot tests of the duotrailer, a truck more than 30 metres long with a maximum capacity of 70 tonnes.

This is not the first time SEAT has collaborated with Grupo Sesé to find solutions that improve road freight transport. Two years ago it was the megatruck, a truck more than 25 metres long that improved efficiency by increasing load capacity, and now both companies have taken a new step forward.

At 30 metres long, the duotrailer becomes the largest truck operating in Europe.

The new duotrailer, with its 13.6-metre trailers and a Scania tractor unit – a brand that belongs to Grupo Volkswagen – becomes the largest truck operating in Europe. It reaches a total length of 31.70 metres and has a maximum capacity of 70 tonnes. The duotrailer’s efficiency gain over the megatruck thus rises from 14 to 20 percent, compared with a conventional truck.

Pending confirmation through the tests to be carried out in the coming months transporting components from Zaragoza to SEAT’s headquarters in Martorell, the reduction in logistics costs for this type of operation is estimated at around 25 percent. To this must be added the potential reduction in the number of trucks travelling on conventional roads, with the sustainability, environmental and safety advantages that this entails.

In addition, the duotrailer’s trailers can also be transported by rail, as they fit inside the wagons of trains designed to operate with trailers, thus favouring rail transport with the rest of the European countries.
