SEAT Tarraco FR PHEV, the most powerful plug-in hybrid in the brand's range arrives in Frankfurt
The SEAT Tarraco FR plug-in hybrid will reach the market from 2020 with a combined output of 245 CV.

The SEAT Tarraco FR with plug-in hybrid engine joins the brand’s electrified family, from its headquarters in Martorell. The SEAT SUV now incorporates 13 kWh batteries, which allow it to offer a range of more than 50 kilometres in fully electric mode. According to the brand itself, it reduces emissions to below 50 g/km. The SEAT Tarraco FR PHEV has now become the most powerful in the range, as it features a 150 CV petrol engine and a 116 CV electric motor, which together deliver a combined output of 245 CV.
Among the model’s new features, the functional rear light running across the full width of the bodywork and a 23.4-centimetre screen located on the centre console stand out. It is important to note that the plug-in hybrid version will not arrive until 2020.

The plug-in hybrid engine and the FR trim, according to the brand itself, increase the appeal and efficiency of the SUV. “The Tarraco PHEV is an example of SEAT’s electrification strategy, which will include the launch of six new electric and plug-in hybrid SEAT and CUPRA models by early 2021“.
According to the official statement, “SEAT has sold a record 369,500 vehicles in the first seven months of the year, with 55,200 units sold in July alone, an increase of 7.8% compared with 2019. The Tarraco is helping to expand the Spanish brand’s presence on a global level. The addition of the FR trim and plug-in hybrid technology will be a key factor in achieving its objectives.”

SEAT Tarraco FR plug-in hybrid: power and efficiency combined
“The Tarraco plug-in hybrid perfectly illustrates our strategy towards more sustainable mobility, while still retaining the dynamism and driving enjoyment that are characteristic of any SEAT. The Tarraco is going to be one of the few models available with a plug-in hybrid engine in the large SUV segment, and we believe it has great potential,” said Luca de Meo, President of SEAT.
Designed and developed at SEAT’s facilities in Martorell, the SEAT Tarraco is produced in Wolfsburg (Germany), at the heart of the Volkswagen Group. “The plug-in hybrid propulsion system will increase the efficiency of the brand’s new large SUV, making it a very sustainable and efficient alternative.”
This propulsion system delivers a combined output of 245 CV, thanks to its 150 CV 1.4 TSI petrol engine and a 116 CV electric motor, with 13 kWh lithium-ion batteries. It also offers several driving modes. The Tarraco plug-in hybrid allows the driver to travel in 100% electric mode for more than 50 km. The Tarraco PHEV offers a maximum torque of 400 Nm, reaches a top speed of 217 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds. In addition, CO2 emissions fall significantly below 50 g/km, according to the official WLTP test cycle.
What does the FR trim bring to the new SEAT Tarraco PHEV?
The FR trim on the new SEAT Tarraco plug-in hybrid includes exterior design upgrades such as wider wheel arches, a distinctly sporty rear spoiler and 19″ wheels. At the front, the SEAT badge occupies a prominent position on the grille exclusive to the FR finish, while at the rear there is a fully functional light running across the entire width of the bodywork, which emphasises the dynamic character of the FR styling.
Likewise, all the elements are painted in the body colour, achieving a far more imposing design. In addition, a new colour, Fura Grey, and new customisation options for customers stand out. “The ultimate expression of the Tarraco FR’s sportiness is its own logo, which features embossed lettering.” Among the new features is a trailer assist system, which makes both hitching up and parking manoeuvres easier.
Inside the cabin, the sense of comfort is enhanced by the latest generation of the SEAT infotainment system, which includes a new navigation system with a larger 23.4 cm screen. This increases the SUV’s digitalisation and optimises the information for the driver and connectivity for passengers. Front-seat occupants benefit from electrically adjustable sports bucket seats with memory function.
