Seat will be one of the brands to equip Android in its cars

SEAT is driving the development of services to keep innovating the interior of its vehicles, and with that goal has joined the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA). This association is a global alliance of leading technology and automotive industry players committed to bringing the Android platform to cars starting in 2014.
The functionality of Android applications has been specifically optimized for the driver’s needs, which simplifies the interaction between driver, vehicle and smartphone and helps reduce risks at the wheel.
The system itself: “It looks and feels like part of the car”, explains Patrick Brady, Android engineering director, “but it runs on the phone”. The car provides the screen and the connection, but everything else is stored on the phone (maps, calendar, music, email, etc.).
For Seat this is a great opportunity to attract more followers of the brand, since its customers are characterized by a young and dynamic spirit, with a special interest in and passion for using Google services, applications and networks in their vehicles.
Furthermore, along with the full range of applications offered by independent developers, SEAT will also contribute its own “apps” with useful information, community features and personalized options.
Dietmar Peters, Head of Electrical and Electronic Development at SEAT, states: “At SEAT we are excited about the opportunity to join the Open Automotive Alliance. The ability to expand the functionality of our Infotainment products – information + entertainment – with the incorporation of the Android system into our cars is the perfect example of technology to enjoy”.
