The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman will cost more than 700,000 euros

Exactly a year ago, Daimler’s CEO, Dieter Zetsche, confirmed that the disappearance of Maybach as a manufacturer within the German group would pave the way for the revival of the Pullman name on Mercedes-Benz. The aim is for this name to designate the largest and most luxurious variants of the S-Class, intended to meet the needs and tastes of senior politicians, top executives and other prominent figures.
In recent days, new data about the S-Class Pullman regarding its dimensions and pricing has come to light. The German saloon, whose length will reach 6.4 metres, will become the longest mass-produced vehicle. It will thus overtake one of its most direct rivals, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase, which measures just under 6.1 metres in length.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman will also outprice its British opponent. While the Phantom Extended Wheelbase starts at 564,213 euros, a figure already out of reach for most mortals, its German challenger will be offered for around 732,650 euros when it goes on sale next year. The fortunate customers who can afford it will be pleased to know that the vehicle’s armouring is included in the price.
According to a source who is closely familiar with the details of Mercedes-Benz’s product strategy, the Pullman will feature four rear-facing seats arranged in two rows, whose space will be separated from the front row by a glass partition to guarantee the privacy of the passengers.
However, before launching the Pullman on the market, Mercedes-Benz plans to bring back Maybach as the name of a new S-Class variant. It will sit between the saloon’s long wheelbase and the future Pullman and will be presented in November at both the Los Angeles and Guangzhou, China shows. Later, at the end of 2015, the S-Class convertible will arrive.
