Shelby GT500 Super Snake, the Mustang

Honestly, I have never been much of a fan of Muscle Cars. Any of those currently on the market look like works of art to me, but that’s as far as it goes. They are not cars for corners like the European or Japanese ones; they are sports cars for the famous 1/4 mile. But now this may change. Shelby has unveiled its Super Snake, the most radical Mustang.

Production will be limited to 500 units, and the price of the upgrade starts at $28,995, to which you must add the total price of the standard Shelby GT500. It is not cheap, but it looks like it is worth every cent of its price. The modifications are not only in the engine but also in the rest of the Mustang.

What really catches the eye is what lies beneath that enormous bonnet. The 5.8-litre V8 receives two different upgrades, one for those who enjoy excitement and the other for those who have already lost control of the situation and don’t care about absolutely anything. The first produces 662 CV of power, but some people find that figure is not enough, so the Americans have fitted the block with a Kenne Bell supercharger that allows it to produce no less than 850 CV. The gearbox is a six-speed manual.

The rest of the changes include a fibreglass bonnet, a Borla exhaust, 20-inch alloy wheels fitted with high-performance tyres, the kind that let you feel the grip in your body. There is also a sport suspension, Wilwood brakes and an improved cooling system.

The interior includes headrests on the seats and floor mats embroidered with the phrase “Shelby-designed components”.
