Škoda Kodiaq RS reveals its power and sets a record lap time at the Nürburgring along the way
We still have a few months to see it in full, but the Škoda Kodiaq RS is already showing its character with a new record lap time at the Nürburgring

The rise in SUV sales means that the vast majority of brands, if not all, have one of these models in their range. It could also be said that the VAG Group takes the crown, since SUVs, in all of their segments, are a very important pillar of its lineup. Obviously, as with any car, SUVs have seen their performance versions grow exponentially, and the new Škoda Kodiaq could not be without an RS version.
The Škoda Kodiaq RS will undoubtedly be a real treat for its future owners, as it combines the versatility of an SUV, with its great capacity with room for 7 occupants, and the sportiness that Škoda has always conveyed in its RS performance versions. In this way, the Czech brand showed up a few days ago at the Nürburgring with its new toy for mischief, and these seem to have resulted in a new record on the asphalt of the Green Hell.

To push any vehicle to the limit over the 20.832 kilometres of the Nürburgring circuit, you need an experienced driver, one who knows every curve, every camber and even every pothole inside out, and Škoda chose none other than Sabine Schmitz to take the controls of the Kodiaq RS. The German driver has vast experience at the Nürburgring; in fact, she herself estimates that she has completed some 30,000 laps of the circuit, many of them thanks to her work as a Ring Taxi driver on the circuit itself.
Once you have a driver you can trust to set competitive laps at the Nürburgring, all that remains is for the brand to have developed an exciting vehicle, and Škoda has not cut corners with its 7-seat SUV. The Kodiaq RS features a 2.0-litre twin-turbo TDI engine that delivers 239 CV of power, paired with well-tuned dynamics, achieved in part through the use of the Dynamic Chassis Control, which includes a drive mode selector and, as it could not be otherwise, permanent four-wheel drive.

With all these ingredients on the track, all that was left was for the Škoda Kodiaq RS to get rolling, and from the look of things it has gone rather well: they have set the record for a 7-seat SUV at the Nürburgring with a time of 9:29.84 minutes, making clear the great potential hidden beneath that camouflage. For now that camouflage is not coming off, at least not until October, when it will be unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show.
