Smart is stepping up with the new smart #5, a technology-packed electric SUV with a very adventurous character
Smart has officially unveiled its third electric model, the smart #5, a mid-size premium SUV with an 800-volt architecture that will go on sale early next year.

Following the earlier leak ahead of its official presentation, which already gave us a look at some of its exterior design and even many of its technical specifications, smart now reveals the third model in its electric range, the smart #5, joining the smart #1 and smart #3. A vehicle with which smart raises the bar, not only in size, with its 4.75 metres of length and a wheelbase of 2.9 metres, but also in the technology applied.
The new smart #5 fully enters the increasingly competitive segment of mid-size electric SUVs, offering versatility, originality and, if you wish, a pronounced adventurous spirit. In the images you can see how it looks in its more “rugged” variant, which can be equipped with elements such as the roof light bar, the electric tow hitch or the eye-catching Adventurers’ Collection package, standard on the Summit Edition, which includes an underbody protector, roof rack, side steps, and a rear cargo cover and side ladder.
Screens take centre stage inside
With a clearly premium approach, the interior of the smart #5, in addition to its versatility, stands out for the prominence given to the infotainment system. The instrument cluster is handled by a 10.3-inch ultra-high-definition screen, and there are also two 13-inch AMOLED screens, one for the multimedia system and another for the passenger, placed one after the other. In addition, the driver enjoys an augmented reality head-up display measuring no less than 25.6 inches. Of course, there is also an AI voice assistant, which joins smart’s intelligent avatars to control virtually any vehicle function simply by talking to the car. Smart boasts the use of the AMD V2000 chip, guaranteeing power and smoothness.

For passengers, the smart #5 offers up to 34 storage compartments spread throughout the cabin, a 72-litre space under the front bonnet, and a boot that can reach 1,530 litres with the rear seats folded down. There are details such as a Sennheiser audio system with 2,000 watts, 20 speakers and an additional portable speaker, an ambient lighting system with 256 colours, or the option to configure the seats to create a bed.
As for performance, there is not much data yet. The platform, with 800-volt architecture, features a 100 kWh battery with a “supercharge” function. Smart claims a range of over 740 km, but on the CLTC cycle; the WLTP homologated figure will be lower. Best of all, it can charge from 10% to 80% of its capacity in just 15 minutes.

The smart #5 is expected to reach the European market early next year.
