You’ve probably been wondering for some months about the upcoming future BMW M2. Its facelift is knocking at the door, and today we’re going further and looking at some details about the new German sports car. Not only that, we’ll also look at some secrets of the BMW XM, a model that is already warming up its engines.

Bimmerpost, one of the most important sources of information for BMW enthusiasts, has published some very curious details about both models. Let’s focus our attention on the future BMW M2. This fun German sports car will feature the S58 engine, a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six. This powerplant will deliver 455 CV of power. To put that in perspective, the BMW M2 CS offers 450 CV.

BMW M2 and BMW XM: these will be the most desirable new vehicles from BMW’s performance division

Even though the new BMW M2 is arriving, it’s quite possible that another BMW M2 CS will be born in the not-too-distant future. This model could reach 500 CV of power. In addition, the future BMW M2 will be rear-wheel drive and, for now, will not have the xDrive system. Driving purists will be very pleased with this news, as they will also be able to enjoy a six-speed manual gearbox.

Among the equipment, a carbon-fibre roof stands out, along with staggered wheels, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. Production will take place at the Mexico plant, and during the first four months of production it will coincide with the celebration of BMW M’s 50th anniversary. It will enter the line in December 2022 and will be available until July 2029. You may well have to dig deep into your pocket, because we’re sure the BMW M2 G87 will become one of those collector’s models.

The BMW XM is internally known as Project Rockstar and will enter the production line in just over a year. It will be available until November 2027. The brand will offer drivers a BMW XM 45e that will be a hybrid, along with two petrol engines. The 45e version will also feature the S58 twin-turbo six-cylinder engine from the BMW M3 and BMW M4, not to mention the new BMW M2. This powerplant will be connected to two electric motors. Combined, the system will deliver around 650 CV of power.

The new Bavarian sports SUV will have dark blue sport brakes, sport seats, seatbelts and plenty of carbon fibre. The wheels will be 21 inches, although 23-inch wheels will be available as an option. The launch date is not yet known, but it has been mentioned that by mid-2023, the next-generation driver assistance system will become standard equipment.
