Spotted: the next ML63 AMG barely covered and the SLS AMG Roadster uncovered

The performance division of Mercedes-Benz is in the final stretch of development for two of the new models we will see very soon: the new generation of the ML63 AMG and the SLS AMG with no roof. So it’s no surprise that spy photographers from the Dutch site Spyshots.nl have caught them with almost no significant camouflage.

The first to arrive will be the convertible sports car, of which we already had a preview in the fantastic ad the German brand ran during the Super Bowl. The photographed unit, with only the headlights, taillights and badges covered (as if that were news…), shows it will lose the gull-wing doors in exchange for conventional opening doors, as well as a fabric roof with a shape very reminiscent of the SLR Roadster. Its presentation is presumably expected at the New York Auto Show in April.

As for the SUV, it still has a few months to go, though not too many since the new ML is almost ready to be revealed after a long time since Mercedes-Benz began testing it. We were able to get a general idea of its features from the spy photos from 2010, but this time it is much clearer how the AMG performance version will differ.

Following the trend of other recent products from this division, the front bumper will have its air intakes redesigned to be much more rectangular, and the ones at the ends will have rows of LED daytime running lights integrated into their upper part. At the rear, the oval exhaust outlets appear to be replaced by trapezoidal ones. Under its hood we would expect the 5.5 twin-turbo V8 producing 557 CV that it would share with the CLS63 AMG, bringing it up to the level of the renewed generation of high-performance SUVs.
