Spy photos of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class

We can’t say for certain, but we believe Mercedes-Benz may have mistaken the material covering and protecting the prototypes that roam the roads away from prying eyes. What is it? Supermarket bags? We’re not sure yet, but thanks to this rather unusual camouflage, we now have a clearer idea of what the next generation of the S-Class, the flagship par excellence, will look like.

The new German saloon takes many of its design cues from the F700, a concept car that debuted in 2007, noticeable in details such as a larger vertically oriented grille and redesigned headlights that now incorporate LED lights (as has been happening in recent models of the brand such as the SL or the GL).

The general shape of the large saloon does not change much compared to the car currently on sale, although, as always, we will have to wait to find out the technology this new generation will feature. The interior also changes considerably.

In terms of mechanicals, we can expect the introduction of new engines from Mercedes-Benz, including the 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8, as well as some V6 options. Naturally, there will be two high-performance variants from AMG, probably with the new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 in the S63 AMG and a twin-turbo V12 for the S65 AMG.

We will see it first at the end of 2012 and it will be on our roads within a year. What other secrets will this new model hold?
