Surprise! There will be a Volkswagen Golf 8 GTi, TCR, GTD and R, and we already know their power outputs

Volkswagen is already fine-tuning the last details of the Golf 8’s sporty variants, but a leak has let us know their power outputs ahead of time

Yesterday the new Volkswagen Golf 8 GTi peeked out after being caught red-handed and with no camouflage whatsoever; but today we came across some very juicy information. Information has once again leaked about the most exuberant variants of the German compact, a model about which much has been predicted regarding its power. Now we have come across an image that reveals not only part of the styling of the upcoming Golf GTi, GTD and R, but also data confirming the power these versions will be capable of producing.

Just as we expected, the most radical Golfs will be more powerful – and faster – than the variants that precede them. Although the performance figures of these have not been made public, the power output is data more than sufficient to give us an idea of the capabilities of this new batch of sporty variants of the compact par excellence that is on its way.

In the first instance we find the GTi, one of the most anticipated versions of the new Volkswagen Golf. According to this leak, that designation will endow the compact from Wolfsburg with 180 kW, equivalent to about 245 CV. However, we must not forget that there will be a Performance variant that will most likely be capable of doubling that figure.

The illustrious TCR name first appeared on the Volkswagen Golf with its seventh generation and, following its success, the German firm has decided to repeat the move. With this premise, we will have a new GTi TCR that is not only more radical, but also more powerful thanks to the 300 CV it will produce, together with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and most likely supported by a mild-hybrid system.

The GTD variant of the Golf has always been presented as one of the most balanced thanks to its marriage of efficiency and sportiness. Volkswagen, also aware of the good reception of its diesel GTi, has decided to bet once again on a new generation despite the crossroads this fuel faces. In this way there will once again be a Golf GTD, but this time with a not inconsiderable 200 CV.

But the highlight has been served by Volkswagen with the Golf R, the most exuberant variant, which has a strong legacy behind it. Everything points to the firm unveiling the most radical compact at the beginning of next summer, a trait earned through hard work along with its 333 CV.
