Tata is studying the development of an engine together with Jaguar and Land-Rover

Independence. This is what Ratan Tata wants for his two world-renowned brands within his company, Tata Motors. The aim is to give his two British (well, former British) brands the freedom to no longer remain in the shadow of Ford.

It so happens that, under the agreement by which Tata bought Ford from Jaguar and Land-Rover, Ford is still obliged to supply engines to Tata until 2019, but the idea of a joint engine manufacturing venture has been proposed.

To do this, it would be necessary to build a new plant in India or to centralise all production in England. At the same time, Ratan Tata knows that the key to greater and better returns for his group lies in China. For this reason, it is almost certain that this is, moreover, another case of love at first sight with the Chinese market, for which the new engine would be aimed.
