Motoring fans love everything related to cars, from a scale model to a giant poster. Yet there is one essential item in every car lover’s home: films. If we go through our shelves, we will surely find dozens of DVDs about four wheels, and today we bring you news that will make us find space for a new film. The iconic French saga returns to the big screen, Taxi 5 will premiere in April.

That’s right, one of the most famous films about the automotive world is returning to the big screen. The Taxi saga is considered the alter ego of Fast and Furious, only set in Europe. Without a doubt, this is great news for all motoring enthusiasts, since these films have marked a before and after in the automotive industry. But before going into the details of this new instalment, let’s take a brief look back at the first steps of Taxi.

We have to go back to 1998, the year the first Taxi film premiered in cinemas. The story centres on Daniel, a young Frenchman whose dream is to obtain a licence to work as a taxi driver, something that would help him leave behind his job as a pizza delivery man. Once he achieves it, he adopts as his trusty companion a flamboyant, very special Peugeot 406.

Daniel crosses paths with Emilien, a police officer with little skill behind the wheel, which leads him to make a deal with the reckless taxi driver. Thanks to the sporty tuning offered by the French saloon and the driving skills the taxi driver shows throughout the film, they manage to face the enemy. Twenty years later we find ourselves in a similar situation, except that this time the protagonist is Daniel’s nephew.

This young man has just obtained the taxi licence inherited from his uncle and, at the same time, the Peugeot 407 that replaced the 406 throughout the films, though its sporty tuning remains fully intact. In this fifth instalment the roles have been reversed, since this time it is the taxi driver who shows little skill at the wheel.

Without a doubt, this fifth instalment has been a surprise for many fans of the saga and it will reach the big screen in April. Meanwhile, the now-retired Peugeot 407 will have to face various high-flying supercars, such as the Ferrari 458 Italia or the Lamborghini Aventador, but the question is: will the souped-up French saloon measure up? We will find out very soon.
