Tesla is preparing to begin sales of its Semi electric truck in Europe
The Tesla Semi is getting ever closer to becoming a reality on European roads, marking a turning point in the electrification of the logistics sector.
Tesla is finalising preparations to bring its Semi electric truck to the European market, and has taken an important step in this direction with the appointment of Usuf Schermo as the new Head of Business Development for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. Schermo, with previous experience at Volta Trucks and EVUM Motors, will lead the launch of the North American manufacturer’s electric truck on the continent.
Interest in the Semi in Europe was evident last September at the IAA show held in the German city of Hannover, where this heavy vehicle attracted crowds and generated long queues of visitors. At the time, representatives of Tesla stated that the commercial launch in Europe would not take place before 2026, a date that now seems more accurate than ever based on production plans and the latest news about the company.

Schermo, an industrial engineer specialising in energy and resource management, can boast a wide-ranging career in the heavy electric vehicle sector. Between 2022 and 2024, he led sales in Germany for Volta Trucks, until the company faced financial problems and filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and 2025. He then took over sales management at EVUM Motors, a Munich-based company that manufactures electric vans. His mission now is to consolidate the presence of the Tesla Semi in local markets across the EMEA region.
Get ready to see more and more Tesla Semi trucks on the roads
The upcoming commercial launch of the Tesla Semi in Europe is a consequence of the imminent start of its series production. Since the production version was unveiled in 2022, limited units have been delivered to select customers, such as PepsiCo, and some trucks form part of Tesla’s internal fleet. Large-scale manufacturing will take place at a new plant located next to the Nevada Gigafactory, whose construction was completed earlier this year. Tesla is already working on the production lines, with the goal of starting large-scale production at the end of 2025 and reaching an annual production volume of 50 thousand units.

For the European market, Tesla is adapting the truck to local regulations and needs, as the company itself explained during last year’s IAA in Hannover. In any case, it is not out of the question that the Semi truck may even end up being produced in Europe at some point in the more or less near future. In March 2024, during a visit to Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany, Elon Musk mentioned that this plant could become a future production centre for the Semi.
