Tesla now accepts orders in Spain for the Model Y with the seven-seat configuration

The seven-seat Model Y could be a more affordable alternative to the Model X for large families that do not need to travel with a lot of luggage.

Tesla has begun accepting orders in Spain and the rest of Europe for the Model Y with two additional seats in the boot space, suited mainly to children because of their dimensions. The most popular SUV from the American manufacturer thus becomes a seven-seater, although it would perhaps be more accurate in this case to refer to it as a 5+2.

This option is currently available exclusively for the Long Range all-wheel-drive version of the Model Y, whose base price in Spain is currently €51,990, and requires an additional cost of €2,500.

Deliveries of the first Model Y units with seven seats will begin this quarter, as the manufacturer has just announced in a press release. However, if we go to the configurator on Tesla’s website and configure a Model Y with the seven-seat option, there Tesla promises that delivery will take place this very month of October.

Also worth noting is that the seven-seat configuration on the Model Y Long Range all-wheel drive is available whether you choose the black or the white interior, although the latter requires an additional payment of €1,050.

In the seven-seat Model Y, the third row consists of two folding seats facing forward. The American manufacturer says access to these seats is very easy thanks to buttons on the backrests of the second row that allow them to slide and fold forward. Passengers in these seats also have two additional USB-C ports to charge their phone or connect a tablet.

More passenger seats in exchange for less luggage space

An important point for anyone considering the seven-seat option when configuring their new Model Y is that, as might be expected, adding two extra seats considerably reduces the cargo space. With the two rear seats folded up, the boot offers 363 litres of capacity, enough for two small suitcases. If we also add the 117 litres of the front boot, the total luggage space is 480 litres.

When the two third-row seats are folded down, total capacity rises to 753 litres, whereas the standard five-seat version offers 854 litres, including the front boot. Additionally, with the second and third-row seats folded, cargo space is 2,040 litres, compared with the 2,158 litres offered by the five-seat Model Y with the second row folded.

“With the introduction of the seven-seat option, we increase the versatility of the Model Y. This option is perfect for families who need space for all their members, friends and the necessary luggage.”

Units of the Model Y with the seven-seat configuration for the European market are produced at Giga Berlin. For the moment, however, the manufacturer has not specified whether in the near future it will also be possible to add these two extra seats to the versions of the Model Y sold with rear-wheel drive.
