Tesla reaches 3 million vehicles produced at its Fremont plant

Currently, the Fremont plant’s annual production capacity is around 650,000 vehicles, with four different models rolling off its assembly lines

The cumulative production of electric vehicles by Tesla at its Fremont plant, located in the state of California, reached three million units on May 18, 2024; it therefore took less than two years to produce the last million vehicles. Tesla announced that it had reached two million vehicles produced at its Fremont plant in July 2022.

To celebrate this milestone, the company has shared images of the plant team alongside vehicle number three million, which turned out to be a blue Tesla Model S. In addition to the Model S, which has been produced there since 2012, the Fremont assembly line also produces the Model X, Model 3 and Model Y.

The Fremont plant in California was acquired by Tesla in 2010, becoming the company’s first major plant. To date, the cumulative production of all its plants amounts to 6 million vehicles, which means that half of all the vehicles the American manufacturer has put on the road have been produced in Fremont. Today, however, the Shanghai plant in China has taken on a greater role, and currently one of every two of the company’s vehicles is produced there.

Welcome to Fremont

The Tesla plant in Fremont is the only one that produces four different electric vehicle models from the manufacturer’s range. That is, all of them except the Cybertruck and the Semi truck. Its annual production capacity is estimated at more than 650,000 units, of which 550,000 correspond to the Model 3 and Model Y, while the remaining 100,000 or so correspond to the Model S and Model X. To make this possible, the plant receives support from the Nevada Gigafactory, where battery cells and other electronic components, including propulsion systems, are produced.

According to some analysts, the fact that this milestone has now been reached means that the current production rate at the Fremont plant exceeds the estimates made at the beginning of the year. And all this despite the fact that demand is not expected to be excessively high in the second quarter of the year as a consequence of the current global economic situation we find ourselves in.
