Model Y Tesla Electric Cars SUV
Tesla starts production of the updated 2025 Model Y today at the Berlin Gigafactory
After its launch on the Chinese market, it seems that here in Europe we won’t have to wait long to see the updated compact SUV from the American manufacturer on the streets and roads of the continent.
According to German media reports, today, Tuesday, 14 January 2025, production of the updated 2025 Model Y is set to start at the Grünheide gigafactory, located near the German capital. If this news is finally confirmed, it seems clear that we will soon see the latest update to the American manufacturer’s compact SUV in Europe as well.
The report published by German media claims that Tesla management informed employees at the German plant yesterday, Monday, of the start of production of this new model from Tuesday, 14 January. An announcement that therefore came without prior notice and at very short notice. However, some reports indicate that several test chassis were already built at Giga Berlin a few weeks ago.

Tesla appears to have taken advantage of the two weeks of Christmas holidays, during which no vehicles were manufactured, to make the necessary adjustments to the assembly line so that it could now begin production of the updated Model Y “Juniper“. The company seems to have been planning this for some time, since last December André Thierig, the plant’s current director, announced a staff meeting for the second week of January, mentioning that Tesla would then have “some interesting things to announce for the new year“.
First in China and then in Europe
As we already told you here at HighMotor, Tesla revealed only a few days ago on the company’s website for the Asia-Pacific region all the details about the long-awaited refresh of its compact SUV. In all the countries where the Model Y built at Giga Shanghai is sold, it is already possible to order the new 2025 Model Y with expected delivery in March.
Now that production of this new model also seems to be starting at Giga Berlin, it should not be long before the same happens on Tesla’s website for the countries of continental Europe, so we can practically take for granted that the first deliveries of the 2025 Model Y in Europe will take place during the second quarter of the year. Although, obviously, this is nothing more than speculation.

When Tesla finally announces the availability of this new model in Europe, it will be interesting to see whether there is any significant difference from the version already on sale in China. Let us recall, for example, that the 2025 Model Y produced at Giga Shanghai has regained the indicator stalk. A change that may also be kept here in Europe, although some doubt it will be implemented in the version produced for the North American market as well.
Although not all the data is yet available to confirm that the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling vehicle in the world in 2024, just as it was a year earlier, there is no doubt that with this refresh the American manufacturer aims to give a new boost to demand for its compact SUV, so that it can remain the market leader in 2025. Time will tell whether Tesla achieves its goal and what level of acceptance the updated 2025 Model Y receives from the public.
