Although it was a rumour that had been under consideration for several months, we still had no firm news about the official arrival of Tesla Motors in Spain, apart from the import of the Tesla S into our country for just over 72,000 euros. But now we have confirmation from Roberto Toro, head of the communications department of the company for Southern Europe.

The arrival of the electric brand in Spain will take place at some point in 2014, probably during the first half of the year. The first point of sale that will open will be located in Madrid, although new dealerships are planned to open later if demand is good enough.

Tesla will also install superchargers

In addition to the good news that the arrival of Tesla in Spain with a dealership represents, the brand plans to get fully involved in installing superchargers, which charge the batteries to 100% in about 60 minutes. The goal is for there to be one supercharger every 300 kilometres, located in 90% of the areas where the brand sells the most vehicles; following these guidelines, do not expect many superchargers in Spain.

Expectations for the rest of Europe

The company expects Europe to account for 40% of its worldwide sales and therefore will double the number of official European dealerships within the next 18 months. Thus, of the 12 points of sale it currently has, they will rise to 24 in 2015.

On the other hand, the company expects to move ahead with the Tesla S and the imminent launch of the Model X. But more importantly, a future compact model, whose price would start at around 26,000 euros would also arrive in Europe.
