THE 2010: Chrysler finally unveils the new Durango and the 2011 Charger

Within the austerity that Sergio Marchionne has imposed at Chrysler, it must be said that the designers of the American brand are doing remarkably well, given the circumstances. On this occasion they have presented the new Dodge Durango and the new Dodge Charger, vehicles that had been circulating online in the form of anticipation images for several months.

The presentation was full of the boasts of Ralph Gilles, CEO of Chrysler, who compared the two new products with the competition, though in a not particularly orthodox way. About the Charger he said that it will make “the competition wet their pants“, while about the Durango he said “I challenge everyone here to compare it with the BMW X5“.

And now, going through each one, we see that the Durango has gained a somewhat more stylized silhouette at the grille, with more angular headlights and 20-inch wheels. There are not many surprises under the hood, since the new Pentastar V6 will be on board as the heart of the Durango.

Now on to the Charger: stylistically it has not changed much from the previous model, but the updates to modernize it are numerous. The rear lights are based on an LED system and there is a new design of chrome wheels. The upper line of the doors has lost the characteristic “kink” we saw in earlier versions, now being flat, while the grille has changed, dropping the black grille in favor of the new chrome one that will be the brand’s distinctive feature.

The Charger will be powered by the same Pentastar V6 engine as the Durango, although for the more adventurous there will be an optional 360-horsepower V8 HEMI.
