The 3 electric cars that Volkswagen will present in Los Angeles
Volkswagen is preparing the arrival of several models that promise to revolutionise the market for sustainable cars.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen will present three electric prototypes: the compact I.D., the spacious I.D. BUZZ and the elegant I.D. CROZZ SUV. All three feature a completely new architecture, specifically designed with electric propulsion systems in mind. By 2025, the German brand expects to sell one million electric cars a year, and aims to be the leader in the electric mobility market. The first model for Europe in the I.D. Family, made up of fully electric cars, will be the Volkswagen I.D.

“Cars are a symbol of freedom and individuality,” said Jürgen Stackmann, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After-Sales at Volkswagen. “The mistakes of the past have accelerated many things at Volkswagen, and a real opportunity has emerged from the crisis. We believe in electric mobility and in a great future for the car.”

Volkswagen will face the challenges of the future with the I.D. models, which are based on a fully electric platform that will in future be used across the entire Group. The new electric vehicles from Volkswagen will offer a wide range, fast-charging capability and flexible, spacious interiors.
“Among the features of our architecture, the new proportions stand out, with long wheelbases and short overhangs,” said Christian Senger, head of the electromobility product line at Volkswagen, adding: “This allows us to create a completely new space concept, offering great flexibility for both occupants and luggage.”

Senger used the example of the I.D. compact to demonstrate how the interior space has grown: “It has the exterior dimensions of a Golf, but offers as much interior space as a Passat.” This is possible thanks to the space savings achieved with the electric motor parallel to the axle and the high-voltage battery integrated into the floor of the vehicle. This also applies to other body styles: “Electric architecture makes it possible to develop all kinds of vehicles, from compact cars to seven-seat SUVs.”
