The 4.0 revolution at Renault harnesses technology to create the cars of the future

Renault is developing a series of techniques that simplify the manufacturing process of future cars and help workers create unique vehicles.

In the midst of the revolution in the automotive sector, with the arrival of electric and autonomous vehicles, Renault has chosen to digitalise its system to guarantee competitiveness. With the aim of making vehicle manufacturing easier, the French brand has developed technologies that simplify the electrification process.

For Renault, the key to efficient vehicle production lies in its employees. The brand innovates every day with new manufacturing processes that make work easier for operators. With the system known as full kitting, the worker does not need to move around, as all the parts required for the assembly sequence are prepared in advance and follow the vehicle along the assembly line.

On the other hand, the AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) is a robot that assists the operator by working autonomously and acting as a lifting machine.

To divide the sections of its production processes, Renault has created the UET (Elementary Work Unit). The heads of this unit can access production or quality data in real time on a tablet and can direct operators more easily.

The main objective of the brand is to ensure exclusivity for customers, creating 100% personalised vehicles where each unit is unique. To do so, the factories of Renault use QR codes (Quick Response) and RFID chip tags (Radio Frequency Identification) on the parts, linked to a database, which allow the quality of each part to be controlled throughout the entire process.

Renault also works jointly with Nissan to facilitate the development of both brands. The Alliance Production Way production standardfabrica-renault-hm-7 is a system that combines the best of the Renault (SPR) and Nissan (NPW) production systems, and has been used in all the Group’s factories since 2014.

Renault already has 36 production centres and 12 logistics centres around the world and wants to increase production figures in the short term. For the brand, Industry 4.0 is the driving force of connected, agile and competitive production§h38§, and refers to the fourth industrial revolution following mechanisation, electrification and electronics.
