The 5 electric SUVs with the highest WLTP-certified range currently on sale in Spain

Updated ranking of 100% electric SUVs with the greatest range in the Spanish market, with official figures, battery capacity and starting prices.

Real-world range between charges remains the metric that weighs most heavily in the purchase decision for an electric SUV. Beyond design or power, the Spanish buyer asks the same question at every dealership: how many certified kilometres does the car offer on the WLTP cycle? We have selected the electric SUVs with the highest WLTP range that can be purchased today in Spain, using official manufacturer data and without optimistic rounding.

How WLTP range is measured and why it matters

The WLTP protocol (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) replaced the former NEDC in 2017 and has become the European homologation standard. It combines four phases—urban, suburban, extra-urban and motorway—at a higher average speed and with more realistic acceleration profiles. It is not perfect, but it is the only reference comparable across brands and the figure that appears on the official technical data sheet.

Compared with press estimates or the American EPA cycles, the WLTP figure is what allows a reliable and verifiable WLTP electric SUV ranking to be built.

Ranking: the 5 electric SUVs with the highest certified range in Spain

The list has been compiled from models actually sold on the national market, with an official dealer network and a price published by the manufacturer.

1. Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450+ — from €139,937

The electric flagship of the star brand is, at present, the zero-emission SUV with the most certified kilometres on sale in Spain. Its 450+ rear-wheel-drive version is certified at 654 km WLTP thanks to a usable battery of 118 kWh and a drag coefficient Cx of 0.26, exceptional for the category. It charges on direct current at 200 kW and offers four-wheel steering as standard on higher trim levels. Optional third-row seating, Airmatic air suspension and the quietest cabin in the premium segment.

2. BMW iX xDrive60 — from €106,800

BMW updated the iX in 2024 with a higher-density battery and new power electronics. The xDrive60 variant is certified at up to 701 km WLTP in the configuration with 21-inch wheels and aerodynamic package, officially placing it above the EQS SUV in its most efficient version. Its usable battery is around 109.1 kWh and it accepts DC fast charging up to 195 kW. The interior, with natural materials and the curved BMW Curved Display screen, keeps the model’s language from its debut.

3. Audi Q6 e-tron performance — from €73,580

Launched on the PPE platform shared with Porsche, the Q6 e-tron in its performance rear-wheel-drive version is certified at 641 km WLTP with a gross battery of 100 kWh (94.9 kWh usable). A 800 V electrical architecture allows charging at 270 kW on direct current—from 10 to 80% in just 21 minutes—and a certified average consumption of 16.6 kWh/100 km, among the lowest in its segment. Audi has aimed for a fine balance between performance, efficiency and price within German premium.

4. Tesla Model X Long Range — from €114,990

Despite years on the market, the Model X remains a benchmark for range. The Long Range version is certified at 576 km WLTP with a usable battery close to 100 kWh, all-wheel drive and full access to the V3 Supercharger network with peaks of 250 kW. Its iconic Falcon Wing doors, configuration of up to seven seats and a certified consumption of around 18.7 kWh/100 km keep it relevant against newer rivals.

Kia EV9 505 km 99.8 kWh 282 kW 384 CV €60,920 8.6

Conclusion: efficiency and 800 V architecture set the future

The leadership of the electric SUV with the longest range in Spain no longer depends solely on fitting more kWh under the floor. The best-placed models combine high-density batteries with 800 V platforms, refined aerodynamics and consumption below 18 kWh/100 km. Audi and Kia demonstrate that efficiency matters as much as gross capacity, while Mercedes and BMW continue to push the range ceiling in the premium segment.

FAQ

Which SUV has the highest certified range in Spain in 2024?
The BMW iX xDrive60, with an official 701 km WLTP, currently leads the ranking among models on sale at Spanish dealerships.

Is WLTP range realistic in daily use?
In mixed driving at legal speeds, real range usually falls between 80 and 90% of the WLTP figure. On the motorway at 120 km/h in cold weather it can drop to 65–70%.

What advantage does an 800-volt platform bring?
It allows DC charging above 250 kW, halving recharge times. The Audi Q6 e-tron and the Kia EV9 are examples in this ranking.

Are there electric SUVs with more than 700 km WLTP on sale in Spain?
Yes: the BMW iX xDrive60 in its most efficient configuration officially exceeds that threshold. Other models come close to 660–680 km, but the 700 km certified range remains territory reserved for the upper end of the range.
