Audi is pushing ahead with its electric offensive through the Audi Q6 e-tron, the upcoming 100% electric SUV that will arrive to rival the Porsche Macan EV.

Audi is one of the premium brands that is betting most heavily on electric vehicles today. To date, the four-ring brand has two models representing this segment: the e-tron and the e-tron GT. However, although Audi has already announced its intentions to create more affordable electric models, it seems the next step is already being prepared. The brand is already developing what will be known as the Audi Q6 e-tron, a mid-size electric SUV that will go head-to-head with the future Porsche electric Macan.

For now there is little information on the matter, although a few years ago the company presented a concept car with the same name. With all of this, and after having advanced so much in the development of electric cars as well as in the use of the modular platform, Audi has decided to push ahead with its offensive alongside another SUV.

Test mules hint at the dimensions of the Audi Q6 e-tron, a model that will have dimensions very similar to those of the Audi Q5. It is expected to be based on the PPE platform, which both Audi and Porsche use to develop luxury electric vehicles, and which it will share with the future Porsche electric Macan.

As far as styling is concerned, new design canons are expected, which will set the course for the brand’s future electric models. The same will happen in the cabin, where a dashboard similar to the one presented by the e-tron GT will surely be used, along with a new arsenal of technology designed to establish the Q6 e-tron as part of a new generation of electric cars.

The powertrains remain a mystery to date, but considering Audi’s previous steps we can expect several variants. Entry-level versions will include engines with outputs of roughly 250 to 350 CV, while the top of the range will be represented by the RS badge. A Sportback body style is also expected, just like the Macan Coupé.

It is hard to predict with accuracy an arrival date for this new member of the e-tron family. However, given the level of development shown by the test mules, we can expect the debut of the new Audi Q6 e-tron to take place sometime in 2022, and it could be followed by another SUV of more modest dimensions and performance called the Q4 e-tron.
