The Audi R8 dismantles its imposing engine to create a true work of art

I’m sure many of you remember that Lamborghini Miura, from which he removed every last bolt of its engine to create an ejector effect , thus giving rise to a genuine work of art. Well, the Audi R8 has wanted to mirror that situation, but using its powerful V10 engine. With this premise, we have witnessed how the German supercar sheds each and every one of its mechanical components to offer us this picturesque and curious scene, which could even become a new artistic movement, since it would not be the first time the automotive sector has been used to create precisely that: art.

However, there is a reason behind this mechanical dismantling: the V10 engine that powers the R8 turns, no more and no less, ten years old, a symbolic figure for this much-acclaimed heart that is in danger of extinction. To commemorate it in such an original and uncommon way, the four-ring brand has turned to Swiss artist Fabian Oefner to direct this work, which is also one of engineering.

A frank dismantling

Many may feel pain upon seeing how all the parts that make up the atmospheric V10 of the Audi R8 are taken away for no apparent reason. However, the care and attention with which this action has been carried out allows us to rest easy, not only the lovers of the German supercar, but also of any vehicle with a large-displacement engine.

Bumpers, headlights, exhaust system and other main parts were the first to succumb to the screwdrivers and other tools of the Audi team, who left not a single component inside the R8. The transmission, engine, cylinder head and a long list of parts were the next to be extracted, with the aim of placing them one by one in a strategic way to deliver the glorious final result we can see.

A work of art that will go down in history

One does not always get the chance to see all the pieces that bring to life an engine of the calibre of a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10, as is the case here, but Audi and Fabian Oefner have made it possible for us to observe its mechanical layout in detail. All the parts that together form the heart of the Audi R8 have been arranged in front of a black wall with a single intention: to convey the feeling that the German supercar is coming apart in a clean and smooth way.
