The Audi R8 will no longer be manufactured
The Audi R8 will not be built again, as it appears Audi does not plan to continue making more models in this series.
The supercar from Audi, the Audi R8, could disappear for good with the current generation. Following some statements made in an interview at the Geneva Motor Show with Peter Mertens, Audi R&D chief, he stated that there were no future plans to continue developing models in this line.

It is true that a twin-turbo V6 engine is under development for the R8 chassis, which, by the way, will be a very major change from the V10 we know and love in the model. However, Audi is looking to replace this line of its supercar with an electric one. We support the initiative to care for the environment, and we believe electric cars are a step forward, but we also think that certain sports cars should, in some cases, still need to use fossil fuels.
Speaking of the future of the R8, Mertens has commented that the model still has a “long life ahead” and that for now the change was not going to take place, but that it will in the future. Again, the successor will be, as we have mentioned, an electric sports car with a sufficient number of horsepower and a wide range of gadgets and technology that will help people forget the previous model, but will they manage it?
To compensate, Audi seems to assure that the electric versions that will come to cover its lines for engine enthusiasts will be even more powerful. Mertens himself said the following on the matter: “Our sports car line is very profitable and positive for Audi“.

Either way, it seems the future of combustion cars has a limited number of days, in fact, it would not be surprising to see them disappear completely within twenty years. In the future, electric cars or perhaps the fusion of hydrogen technologies will very likely be the protagonists of our means of transport.
