The Bugatti Chiron at 380 km/h at Le Mans, faster than all the other participants

If you like cars, even if you don’t pay much attention to racing, you’ll know that last weekend one of the best-known and most historic races in motorsport was held, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

You will also have heard that with barely 3 minutes left of the 24 hours, that is, after 23 hours and fifty-something minutes of competition at full throttle, the Toyota car, which was practically already savouring the cava, died from a mechanical failure. The Porsche car, which was several hundred metres behind, overtook it when it had already stopped, and the cameras captured tears in the pits, in Toyota’s from rage and pain, and in Porsche’s from joy. Finally Porsche climbed to the top of the podium.

After this very brief summary of the day, you should know that the fastest top speed during that weekend, on one of the long straights of the French circuit, was reached not by the Toyota or the Porsche race cars; it was a certain Bugatti Chiron.

Before the race began, a Bugatti Chiron went out on track to show off and let the spectators see the hypercar live and in person, with its 1,500 horsepower. At the controls of the Chiron was Wolfgang Dürheimer, the boss of the French brand, which belongs to the Volkswagen Group.

On one of the long straights of the Le Mans circuit, the successor to the Bugatti Veyron reached a speed of 380 km/h, faster than any of the participants in all the categories that competed for glory from Saturday at 3 p.m. until the same time on Sunday.

In any case, the Bugatti Chiron is homologated for a top speed of 420 km/h. Perhaps, if the track were the old one, where the historic long straight had no chicanes, which were installed several years ago, it could have come much closer to the homologated figure. Either way, having surpassed the top speed reached by the other participants, they will be quite satisfied within the brand.
