The Cadillac Lyriq starts production at GM's largest plant

Production has begun at the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant of the first Cadillac electric vehicle, which will not reach the European market.

We won’t see it in Spain, and that’s a shame. The Cadillac Lyriq has already started production of the planned 3,200 units and the first customers will soon begin receiving their vehicles. This electric model from the legendary American brand is being manufactured at GM’s main plant, located in Spring Hill, Tennessee. It is the third plant by production volume and was recently refurbished to be able to build electric models.

The Cadillac electric model is built on General Motors’ Ultium BEV3 platform. This allows it to feature an electric motor that delivers 340 CV and a maximum torque of 440 Nm. The 12-module Ultium batteries with a capacity of 100.4 kWh offer a range of 480 kilometres according to the EPA cycle.

The battery has a fast-charging system of up to 190 kW in direct current. With these figures, the car can recover around 120 kilometres in ten minutes. If you use a 19.2 kW home charger, it can recover 84 kilometres per hour of charging.

Advanced technology equipment

This electric SUV, the brand’s first, comes with very complete equipment. It has adaptive Full LED headlights, wheels of up to 22 inches, while the interior features an active noise cancellation system, two screens mounted on a 33-inch curved LED panel, voice control, a digital key and a 19-speaker sound system.

To optimise usage, it features a one-pedal driving system and an energy recovery system with regenerative braking.

For the time being, Cadillac has been overwhelmed by orders, so it sets aside those 3,200 initial cars and will reach 25,000 units over the next year. The price of this model starts at 51,500 euros, so it is a pity it cannot reach the European market, because it appears to be a very competitive and interesting vehicle.
