The cancellation of the Audi A2 electric is now official

We warned you back in June, but now the Ingolstadt brand has made it official. The A2 hybrid and electric production model from Audi is cancelled, like so many other electric models.
Thus, the BMW i3 will be left without a German rival to face, since the Audi A2 was the future reference for the people from Munich. However, not everything is lost, as Audi has resorted to the old cliché of saying that “what we learned from the A2 will be used in the development of future models”. Little comfort for those who were waiting for a production electric version of the A2.
This cancellation clearly confirms that brands are beginning to run out of arguments and good excuses to offer their respective boards of investors when justifying a considerable investment in electric technologies. Development will not stop, but in the case of Audi, mass launches of electric vehicles will have to wait even longer, until the technology becomes more affordable and more reliable for the user.
The concept A2 used a 114-horsepower electric motor in its electric version (a hybrid had also been considered) with a promised range of more than 200 kilometres after 4 hours of charging. It used a chassis entirely made of aluminium, with a new floor design that became a “double floor”, with additional space to store the batteries.
